Many people consider a holiday trip to the Maldives for special moments like their honeymoon. And yes it’s true. The Maldives are the perfect destination if you are looking for a luxury and exclusive place to spend quality time together.
But people also enjoy the small private island resorts without a special occasion. Because if you know how to book your vacation in a smart way the trip might be much cheaper than you would expect. We created a sample trip for your inspiration below where you can see how easy it is to save thousands of euros.
You only need to spend some time online, comparing flight prices and know some of our special tricks to book hotels much cheaper than they offer on their own website. It’s possible to get an 11-day trip for only €1,779 per person including flights from Malta and a comfortable villa-style bungalow on a private island. On top, the all-inclusive board and the transfers by speed boat from the airport to your hotel and back are also part of the deal.

By the way, we planned our sample trip for December when the dry season starts in the Maldives. From our point of view this is the best time to go there as the weather is perfect but the prices are still below the peak time starting just before Christmas.
It is even possible to go over the summer if that fits better for you. If you got your two doses of vaccine already you can fly to the Maldives without tests or quarantine. Rainy season from May to November sounds worse than it actually is. You might experience a daily shower (or two). But you will have enough sunshine before and after to still enjoy your time there.
1. Book cheap flights to the Maldives from Malta
Turkish Airways is currently the best airline to fly from Malta to the Maldives. Usually you only have a short transit stop in Istanbul and the total travel time is between 12 and 13 hours. The arrival time in Maldives’ capital city Malé is around noon. Perfect to arrive around 3pm in the hotel after immigration and transfer by speed boat. The flight returning to Malta leaves before midnight and you will arrive back home in the morning hours of the next day.
Turkish Airlines include 30kg of check-in luggage even in the cheapest fare. So you don’t need to worry about what to bring and what to leave at home. Prices start from €623 per person on some dates and can go up to €900 and more over Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

2. Book an all-inclusive resort in the Maldives
Usually you won’t get the cheapest prices for the all-inclusive resorts in the Maldives booking them directly on their website or using one of the bigger hotel searches like booking.com. You have better chances to make a good deal if you check tour operators in the bigger European markets as they manage to negotiate cheaper rates by committing to a huge amount of rooms over a year.
One of our favourite resorts is the Ellaidhoo Maldives by Cinnamon. Using the quota of German tour operator giant REWE you can book 10 nights with all-inclusive board for only €1,156 per person in December in the peak season in the Maldives. If you compare that rate to booking.com you will easily find out that the price there is not just much higher, but also only includes the breakfast. All-inclusive board comes with another surcharge of more than €1,000.
