Different from most competitors like MSC the German cruise tour operator ‘Mein Schiff’ includes all mandatory tips and service charges in their cheapest rates. Even more, all drinks on board including cocktails, wine or beer are also part of their premium all-inclusive concept.
That means, you only have to pay for organised tours during the cruise, spa treatments or similar activities. And you can easily save more than €1,000 for 2 adults if you enjoy the one or other alcoholic drink on board over a week as the rates are not different than other cruise companies charge for similar routes in the Mediterranean.
We found two very interesting routes for the summer season 2022 as we don’t expect the cruise situation to be normal again before the end of this year. Our first example takes you to Italy, France and Spain. The other cruise connects Malta to Corfu, Athens, Santorini and Crete in Greece.
Both cruises are so called positioning routes. The ship will go from its base in Malta to Spain or Greece and stays there for a while. So you need to book a separate flight back to Malta after your cruise. The advantage for you is that the routes have more stops compared to cruises which depart and end in Malta as you save the time to sail back.
Important notes
The main target group for the ‘Mein Schiff’ cruises are Germans even the route starts in Malta. The languages spoken on board are German and English. Even the variety of food and drinks is huge there might be a tendency to offer special dishes for the German taste.
The passengers on board are mostly best agers. So you can expect a more quiet atmosphere. ‘Mein Schiff’ is not suitable for party lovers. The staff is very international and a lot of them are based in Malta.
We recommend to book the cruise directly with the cruise company as it’s usually not sold in travel agencies around Malta. Unfortunately the website is only available in German. You might use tools like Google Translate in your Chrome browser or contact us to guide you through the booking process.
As cruises are considered as package holidays in Germany you only pay a deposit of 25% after booking. The remaining amount is due 4 weeks before departure. Your money is insured in case of bankruptcy.
It’s too early to book the flight back to Malta for now as most airlines publish their schedules for summer 2022 only by the end of this year. You can expect to pay between €100 and €200 per person.
